Kygo + Bohemian Bombshell
Two days ago I saw Kygo perform at Red Rocks Amphitheater and I was immediately immersed in the carefree, "no worries" culture. My music taste, historically, has been chilly EDM something or other. The week leading up to the event, I didn't want to spoil Kygo's setlist but I also wanted to get in the mood and build the anticipation. So I created (yet another) bangin' playlist, L U S H, on Spotify thats full of deep tropical house Kygo inspired music.
The combination of seeing Kygo live and my music streaming at all times had me thinking about a previous shoot I did in college. I took an Art Direction and Photo Styling course as part of my graduation requirements. Yes, you read that right. I had a course dedicated to scouting locations, finding models, sourcing garments, photographing, editing, and presenting the finished product. Knowing what I know now, I would have had my L U S H playlist blasting in the background to help everyone on the team share an emotion.
The images I'm sharing have been pulled from my vault and have been reimagined. It's crazy to think in just four years my editing style and taste has shifted... for the better, I think.
Even though this work isn't my current palette (I'll bring back those glorious Colorado Mountains for ya), I think it's still important to explore new avenues or revisit old ideas.
I've been involved with several shoots. From weddings to senior portraits to high fashion glamor shoots, they're all special. This concept was particularly interesting to me because of the vibrant foliage and enticing makeup. It's hard to believe these photos were shot on a hillside Nursery in the middle of Missouri. The idea was to transport viewers out of their Winter rut and into exciting Spring fashion. Tropical vibes paired with energized clothes and accessories can make anyone long for the sun over palm trees with a Piña Colada in hand.
